Job Title: Vegetation Restoration Technicians and Crew Leads
Location: Pine River, MB
Salary: $16-19 per hour (dependent upon experience and position), plus housing
Number of positions: 8-10 technicians, 2 crew leads
Contract Dates: Approximately mid-end of April until early-mid September
Closing Date: March 20th (review of applications will begin prior to job closing date)

Olson Bison Conservation Ranch is a bison ranch located approximately 10 km east of Duck Mountain Provincial Park and 100 km north of Dauphin, containing 6,000 bison housed on 65,000+ acres. It is the largest conservation herd of bison in the world. We are looking for vegetation restoration techs and leads to join this exceptional environment. The ranch owns a number of comfortable houses located on the property and on surrounding lands that are used to provided accommodations to employees.

Job Responsibilities:
 Vegetation identification (some training will be provided)
 Manual removal of invasive plants to control localized invasions
 Taking detailed field notes to record area invasions and work progress
 Use of GPS and GIS to track work progress throughout season
 Use of UTVs to access sites (standard and automatic transmission)
 Some tasks may include collection of data to support additional research projects on the ranch

Desired Candidates possess the following attributes:
 Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions (i.e. hot, windy, buggy, etc.)
 Positive attitude
 Ability to work in a safe manner
 Experience or ability to work in a remote environment without cell service
 Ability to work with a team and live with fellow technicians
 Environmental awareness and strong sense of direction (ability to use a map and GPS)
 Ability to identify native and non-native plant species (or have the capacity to learn this skill)

Job qualifications:  Driver’s license with clean driving record  Currently enrolled in or completed post-secondary education in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field  Bear awareness training an asset  Previous vegetation identification experience an asset (required for crew leads)
