The Senior Urban Planner will function as:
+ Manages complex planning studies, development applications and reviews.

+ Reviews and processes complex comprehensive plan amendments, rezoning, annexations, site plans and plats.

+ Conducts research and prepares statistical reports on land use, physical, social and economic issues.

+ Provides professional planning assistance to member communities on varied land use and transportation projects.

+ Develops plans, studies and analyses on regional basis.

+ Works in regional program areas relating to natural/water resources planning, community development, hazard mitigation, coastal zone management, and others.

+ Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the development review process and/or to verify that development projects comply with approved plans.

+ Conducts meetings and presents reports and other findings to staff with advisory boards and elected officials.

Minimum Requirements

+ Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, City Planning, or related field

+ 4+ years of relevant experience applying Manitoba planning policies and regulations, including The Planning Act, to preparation of Development Plans, Secondary Plans and Zoning By-laws, and Subdivision Regulations, as well as knowledge and experience with City of Winnipeg planning and development processes.

+ Eligibility for Full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Manitoba Professional Planners Institute (MPPI).

Preferred Qualifications

+ Master’s degree in Planning or related field (e.g. Landscape Architecture).

+ Full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), Registered Professional Planner (RPP) and Member of the Manitoba Professional Planners Institute (MPPI) a definite asset.

+ Strong portfolio of projects demonstrating excellent technical capabilities with a focus on the delivery of high-quality planning.

+ Demonstrated experience in client relationship management, project management and team management.

+ Ability to work across integrated teams both within the Urbanism + Planning Practice and other key market sectors (Architecture and Building Engineering, Water, Transportation, Environment).

+ Private and public sector experience.

+ Knowledge and experience working with MS Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), and AutoCAD and/or GIS.

+ Strong interest in working on First Nations /Indigenous/Northern Community Planning projects.

+ Demonstrable track record in the successful delivery of projects from proposal development to implementation and completion, with a focus on maintaining project schedule and budget.

+ Superior interpersonal skills including relationship building, communication at all levels and an ability to work collaboratively across the organization;​​​​​​​
