Winnipeg Trails is seeking a Aerial Surveyor – Sustainable Transportation (Winter) The successful incumbent will be coordinating survey requirements on all projects as well as coordinating with the Executive Director on various active transportation projects throughout winter.
The Aerial Surveyor- Sustainable Transportation (Winter) promises a unique view of how a city’s inhabitants use sidewalks, parks, rivers, bikeways and roads. Our Organization is on the hunt for sneckdowns, ice bridges and the sloppy desire lines we all leave behind. Using aerial drones to map the traces we leave in the snow, and computers to stitch, compile and share them will facilitate analysis by government planning and researchers everywhere.
Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Drone Operation: Candidate will be responsible for creating a large aerial map of Winnipeg showing the patterns revealed by snow on our rivers and transportation networks; consideration will need to be given to working in an extreme cold and complex regulatory environment.
Geographic Information Systems: Candidate will be responsible for preparing a georectified ECW file with a public view; Candidate will work with a team to develop a mapping convention and prepare an online view.
Key Skills and Attributes:
Professional aerial drone photography piloting experience
Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems ie. ESRI, QGIS
Familiarity with digital map publishing, ie.map tiling, OSM
Familiar with the communication platforms (Slack, Email, Trello) with effective communication skills
Legally able to work in Canada
Love of the outdoors.
Delivering a detailed aerial winter survey of agreed upon area of Winnipeg in an easily-viewed interactive online format.
Prepare final project report
Other deliverables as mutually agreed upon
