GIS is playing a more and more important role in everyone’s lives these days...and to recognize this importance the Manitoba GIS User Group (MGUG) would like to announce today, in recognition of the importance of GIS in Manitoba the MGUG 2011 Post-Secondary Award.
MGUG is planning to award a total of $1,000 CAD to students enrolled in a Manitoba post‐secondary academic institution with their primary subject matter focusing on Geographic Information Systems.
The winners of the two $500.00 Awards will be based off a poster/paper/report competition judged by several of Manitoba’s GIS Professionals to determine the winning students.
- Submitted materials will be evaluated on the student’s use of GIS for innovation, creativity, communication, and applicability to achieve project results.
- A total of two $500.00 awards will be awarded in early June, 2011.
- Posters must be no larger than 48 inches wide by 36 inches long while papers/reports and other written documents should be no longer than 12 to 15 pages in length (written pages only, figures, images, etc. don’t factor into the page total).
- The submitted work must contain the student’s name and academic affiliation. In situations where multiple people participated in the project all names/affiliations must appear on the submission. Lastly, within the body of the accompanying email a statement as to the context in which the work was conducted (classroom project, summer internship, thesis) should be included along with contact information for the supervisor of the project.
- Please submit your work (in PDF format) to the following email address – mgugeducation@gmail.com with the subject line “2011 Post Secondary Award”
- Poster deadline submission is Friday, May 20th, 2011.
- Winning submissions will be published on the MGUG website.
We look forward to your student’s participation, and feel this will be an excellent opportunity to showcase your GIS programs and your students to all of the Manitoba GIS User Group members.
